On September 23, 2025, the Department of Public Health held the first meeting of the student research club dedicated to one of the most pressing issues in modern medicine – antibiotic resistance, in particular, the threat posed by ESKAPE pathogens.\u00a0 During the meeting, club members discussed a group of highly pathogenic microorganisms, collectively known as ESKAPE (Enterococcus faecium, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterobacter spp.), which are highly resistant to most available antibiotics and pose a serious threat to healthcare systems around the world.<\/p>

The speakers and associate professor of the department, Tetiana IVAKHNYUK, familiarized the participants with: the mechanisms of developing resistance to antimicrobial drugs; the clinical consequences of infections caused by ESKAPE pathogens; the epidemiological situation in Ukraine and worldwide; strategies for combating antibiotic resistance within the One Health approach. During the discussion, students actively expressed their opinions on the need to raise public awareness of the risks of self-medication with antibiotics, as well as the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to maintaining the effectiveness of antimicrobial therapy. The event took the form of a lively discussion, which once again confirmed the interest of students in contemporary public health challenges.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
