The Sumy regional organization of the Red Cross Society congratulated the most active volunteers on December 5, in the SSU Medical Institute. Celebrations took place on the occasion of the International Volunteer Day, which has been celebrated around the world for more than 30 years. The volunteer movement began in the ’90s in Ukraine and officially recognized it on December 10, 2003.
An agreement on cooperation was signed between the Sumy State University and the Sumy Regional Organization of the Red Cross Society of Ukraine on January 11. One of the points stipulated by the agreement is the scientific cooperation in the preparation of grant-oriented projects for medical-social orientation and the creation of a Volunteer School at SSU for humanitarian work among socially disadvantaged groups of the population.
The best volunteers were selected by the members of the Presidium: Director of the Medical Institute of the SSU Andriy Loboda; Igor Shapoval , the head of the Sumy regional organization of the Red Cross Society; Deputy Director of the extra-curricular work and work in the dormitories Alexander Oleshko and the Student Director of the MI, volunteer-organizer Julia Dudko.
Andriy Loboda noted that volunteering for future doctors is not only a medical practice: “Volunteering allows to raise ethics for a future doctor, gives an opportunity to communicate not only with ill patients but also with their parents, relatives. More than one hundred students of the Medical Institute are volunteers on an ongoing basis, while during the shares this number can increase several times “.
Igor Shapoval awarded by diplomas the most active students-volunteers and invited guests, among them: Natalia Karelina – regional coordinator of the first aid school, a member of the emergency response unit, the trainer of the first medical aid; Viacheslav Palochkin – commander of the emergency response unit, first aid instructor; Alexander Gnibilov – a member of the emergency response unit, first aid trainer; Victoria Korobka – a member of the emergency response unit, first aid instructor; Yaroslav Kholod is a member of the rapid reaction unit, youth leader of the Red Cross Society; Volodymyr Moskalenko is a member of the rapid reaction unit; Dmitry Odintsov is a member of the emergency response unit.
Students of the SSU are active participants of the volunteer movement. They constantly organize environmental actions and events for children, take care of the elderly, visit centers for the overgrowing of animals, donate blood for free, and so on.
