The Department of Public Health of the Educational and Scientific Medical Institute of Sumy State University continues the implementation of the academic partnership program between universities in Ukraine and the United States (Temple University) within the framework of the USAID project “Building a Sustainable Public Health System”. This project is implemented in partnership with Pact, which includes Temple University, the University of Pennsylvania, the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and the Philadelphia Health Federation, the Swiss Institute of Tropical Medicine and Public Health, the European Institute for Public Health Policy, the Coalition for Vaccination, Oversee Strategic Communication and national partners: the Ministry of Health, the Central Health Service, the Central Center for Mental Health, the Coordination Center for Mental Health of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, and the National Public Health Agency.
On October 5, a meeting of representatives of partner universities and the development of activities within the framework of the project took place. The delegates from Sumy State University were scientists from the Department of Public Health – Viktoriya GOLUBNYCHA, Tetyana IVAKHNYUK and Natalia DRYHA. During the meeting, issues and steps were discussed regarding the implementation of the best practical measures of the Educational Program 229 – Public Health of Temple University into the educational programs of Ukraine. The meeting was also attended by the chairman of the All-Ukrainian Association of Public Health Physicians, with whose participation the main directions of development of the public health system and issues of training public health specialists in Ukraine were discussed. The lecturers of the department (Viktoria Holubnycha and Tetyana Ivakhniuk) shared with the participants of the meeting their own achievements in this field, which were obtained during the implementation of the EuroBioSec project 101048202 ERASMUS-JMO-2021-HEI-TCH-RSCH, and proposed ways to solve hot public health issues.
The meeting resulted in planning further steps of cooperation, namely:
- assessment of the needs of specialists working in the field of public health;
- professional development / training for universities together with partners from the USA, study tour;
- development and implementation of certified training courses based on the best practices of Temple University (USA);
- writing legislative recommendations for the Ministry of Education and Science and the Ministry of Health, the National Joint Stock Company;
- organization of further events.
In the future, it is planned to organize a series of online meetings with university project teams, joint events and online training activities for teachers and students of the Еducational Рrogram 229 – Public Health, as well as supervision.
