On January 3-4, 2024, events were held for schoolchildren within the framework of the FIRST biological school at the Department of Public Health of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Sumy State University. On January 3, associate professor of the department – Tetyana Ivakhniuk held the event “Interesting microbiology” for students of secondary schools in the city of Sumy, where they learned about the importance of the normal microflora of the body and the influence of the surrounding environment on its composition. On January 4, associate professor of the department Victoria Нolubnycha held the event “Food biosafety” during which school children investigated the risks of food poisoning and studied the causative agents of mycosis and mycotoxicosis, which cause intestinal infections, under a microscope. Schoolchildren watched with interest a film about microscopic fungi, which often lead to food spoilage. Also, during the meeting, schoolchildren learned to separate these pathogens from artificial nutrient media.
