Monitoring of the mental health of Ukrainians

Sumy State University together with Swiss universities (The Collegium Helveticum, The Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Prevention Institute, University of Zurich) plan to conduct mental health monitoring in Ukraine.
On March 31, 2023, the international seminar “Mental health surveillance in Ukraine is an important basis for the mental health of the population” was held in Zurich (Switzerland).
The idea of organizing the event belongs to the associate professor of the Department of Public Health Viktoria Yasenok, who during the war received the position of a scientist at the University of Zurich.
Andriy Loboda, Director of the National Institute of Social Sciences of Sumy State University, Andriana Kostenko, Head of the Center for Social Research, and Victoria Petrashenko, Associate Professor of the Department of Pediatrics, joined the interdisciplinary team of specialists in public and mental health, political science, psychology, survey development, social networks, and other disciplines. The purpose of the meeting was to develop a tool for monitoring the mental health of Ukrainians living in different regions of the country or abroad. The scientists also worked out the research methodology and outlined further work plans.
Future monitoring should assess the prevalence of post-traumatic stress disorder, depression and anxiety, as well as the impact of the socio-economic consequences of war on mental health.
